Living our Purpose: Midrex Supports Relay for Life in Honor of Shohei Manabe

At Midrex, we see the importance of supporting our communities and giving back to assist those who need it. Midrex is incredibly proud to see our teammates volunteering their time and resources to support the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.
Every year, thousands of Americans will hear the words they hoped to avoid their entire lives: you have cancer. While they face of one of mankind’s deadliest illnesses with bravery and tenacity, Midrex teammates work hard to support them through their battle. For the past two years, Midrex teammates have supported Relay for Life to honor a Kobe Steel teammate named Shohei Manabe.
Why We Relay
Shohei Manabe has served as a pillar of support and leadership at Midrex for 25 years. Having spent over 40 years at Kobe Steel, Shohei’s guidance has been invaluable to Midrex in our journey to success. In January 2012, Shohei was diagnosed with Malignant Lymphoma. After 8 months of intense treatment, Shohei was declared cancer-free. It was his strength, perseverance and community of support that led him through this difficult time.
It was Shohei’s journey that motivated Midrex to establish the annual “Shohei Manabe’s Relay for Life” cancer walk. Midrex’s participation in this annual event contributes to the development of advanced treatment methods, increased prevention awareness, and rallies the Charlotte community towards cancer support.
Our Community Impact
Shohei’s story of survival is shared by millions of patients, survivors, families, and communities around the globe. His journey inspired our teammates, whose lives had also been touched by cancer, to get involved and fight back against this terrible illness. Since Midrex joined the Relay for Life family in 2019, we have dedicated countless manhours and resources to raise funds in hopes of finding a cure.
We are incredibly proud of our teammates who have worked hard to raise $30,164 since 2019. And that number continues to grow!
Even though we cannot relay together this year, we are still able to make an impact. Its service projects like the Relay for Life that demonstrate our commitment to our purpose of loving and serving others. The entire Midrex team looks forward to 2021 when we will continue our fight by supporting Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
